Startburst pattern patchwork quilt

Patchwork blankets from the American Folk Art Museum. All the blankets on show were pretty amazing, although in truth I had hoped for an eclectic mix of outsider art and a glimps into the strange universe of imagination that can be found in so much of the fantastic American Folk Art.

ivory carvings from the Met Museum New York

Beautiful finds from the Metropolitan Museum of Art

I found these amazing beads in a store on Rivington Street. They are all individually made from wax wire and cast as a whole. What I love is the hollow construction.

New York, New York!

It’s less than a week until the New York Gift Fair. I have finished the new pieces for the show and I’m looking forward to launching the Archipelago collection in the US, that I made for Electum Gallery at COLLECT in May this year. The collection is a development from the Brink pieces I made for my solo show at Jewelers Werk the previous year. The collection itself brings together my love of precious gems and colour with my fascination of the potential and complexities of the lost wax casting techniques that I use to create my work.

For the Archipelago collection I have focused on bringing a new lightness to the work and a fine intricate detailing that translates so well into 18ct gold. I have been focusing on elaborate armatures and classic ring settings that capture an opulence and a grandeur, yet retain the unexpected and irregular beauty that is an inherent part of my design aesthetic. As with all the pieces the outcome is never fully realised until the final moments, which make the process of making so much more exciting and the success of a good cast so much more thrilling. The collection is still in its fledgling stages, with a few of the pieces having already flown the coop I am looking forward to working on the next pieces.

I have been traveling to New York to show at the New York Gift Fair for four years now and love it. This will be my first trip with my boyfriend and our new daughter Matilda Gold. There is always so much to check out as well as popping in on the lovely jewellery stores that stock my jewellery. Love Adorned will be top of my list, opened earlier this year by Lori Leven who owns the best tattoo parlours in New York and now also a fine jewellery and concept store housing all kinds of beautiful treasures and precious wonders Lori has found around the world. Not far away is the beautiful Albertine and the wonderful Lori Mclean jewellery store. Catbird in Williamsburg house beautiful jewellery and are a stones throw from my favourite perfume store I Hate Perfume, where I can while away the hours guessing at the strange and exotic smells within.

There is going to be some great new jewellery in the British Handmade Section at the Gift Fair check out both Beth Gilmore and Lucie Gledhill and see you there!
